A Re-Introduction
|
I have decided to start a blog type thing again.
And I've set myself a few ground rules from the start. Mostly they are to do with the behind the scenes stuff that happens with websites.
The most obvious thing about this blog is that it hosted by Blogger. This brings restrictions that have to be accepted or worked around. Which I firmly believe is no bad thing.
There's the horrible toolbar at the top for a start. You don't get anything for free on the web and google will host this site for me as long as that toolbar is up there. They are not currently forcing me to serve any Google Ads so that's a fair deal as far as I can see. What do I get out of it? Well I no longer pay for my own domain name or site hosting. And since I don't have any intention of monetirising this site that saves me cash. No cash in and no cash out. Job's a good un as my mate Simon says.
Techically and design wise this means I can no longer host images to tart up the site and make it look spangly. All of the colours and layout are done in the template. And there's really no frills attached.
I started out coding for mobile phones way back when and I've always had a "less is more" philosophy. In fact you could say I may be the only person in the world who thinks a nicely formatted left aligned list could win design prizes.
The next thing is I just use tables. I have lots of friends who are web developers and they spend their days just critiquing the latest fads and niceties in code. And whilst alot of it is great there really is no need for div tags in everything that is on the web. The "big" issue from a usability point of view with using tables is with screen readers which are web browsers for "people with accessibility issues" These readers read from the top left hand corner down. And when they encounter tables they read across the table not down the table (which is how I have formatted the template) I also use table cells for spacing for this site simply because I am lazy at this point and don't want to get into working out the spacing for everything. Something for me to change at some point. Do you care? Doubtful.
So basically I have created a simple no frills site which hopefully will look easy on the eye (when I sort out the colour scheme) and I'm not remotely interested in the semantics and makeup of the code itself.
Regarding the content that I will end up adding to the site? Well I have no intention of doing the monumental brain dumps that I used to do on my old web site. That was the old me and it was great to help me out back then but things have changed and I no longer feel the need to purge myself on everyone about the inner workings of my brain.
I suspect there will be lots of tirades and ranting about the latest hot new things. Twitter for example seems to be really pushing my button at the moment and the way it's seeping into Facebook status updates. I hilarious refer to Twitter as Tw@tter in real life so you can expect lots of quality puns just like that. I may even go so far as to call it Sh@tter or something. Who can tell?
Aside from that you can expect YouTube videos of songs that are wrenching my heart and soul, random lyrics, content that makes my mother think I'm about to kill myself because she doesn't understand it and so on and so forth.
Be Seeing You!
